Keeping in mind the purpose of PAR, which is to benefit communities, Photovoice allows the same to happen through the media of photography.

Action research

Critical thinking can be seen as having two components: A commonly known cycle is that of the influential model of Kemmis and McTaggart mentioned earlier -- plan, act, observe, reflect; then, in the light of this, plan for the next cycle. At every cycle, the research process includes these four stages, with deepening experience and knowledge of the initial proposition, or of new propositions.

To do so, clinicians must select the best scientific evidence relevant to particular patients—a complex process that involves intuition to apply the evidence.

But if those imprecise answers can help to refine questions and methods, then each cycle can be a step in the direction of better action and research.

Consequently, good patient care requires more than a straightforward, unequivocal application of scientific evidence. This stage includes actions relating to learning processes perhaps in the form of role analysis and to planning and executing behavioral changes in the client organization.

It confronts the researcher to challenge the status quo of their educational practice and to answer the question, 'How can I improve that I'm doing?

Effectiveness depends upon mutual influence between patient and practitioner, student and learner. We still have to conjugate verbs, understand economic cycles, and listen to stories. Beyond that, the proficient nurse acknowledged the changing relevance of clinical situations requiring action beyond what was planned or anticipated.
